Privacy policy
What Plant to Pipeline collects, why, and who sees it. Last updated Oct. 27, 2026.
Plant to Pipeline is published by Ready Set Grow LLC, an Ohio limited liability company doing business as Grey Matter ("we," "us"). This policy covers planttopipeline.com and our newsletter, The Tuesday issue. Grey Matter's own website has its own privacy policy.
The short version
- We run Google Analytics to see which pages people read. That is the only tracking on this site.
- If you subscribe, we keep your email address to send you the newsletter.
- Your contact information is used only for marketing: our newsletter, and Grey Matter's newsletters and marketing emails. Grey Matter owns Plant to Pipeline, so the two may share it.
- We do not sell your personal information, and there is no advertising tracking on this site.
1. Information we collect
What you give us. When you subscribe, we collect the email address you enter. We also record the page you signed up from and the date, and the network (IP) address your request came from, which our email provider uses to filter out spam signups.
What Google Analytics collects. When you visit the site, Google Analytics records the pages you view, how you arrived (for example, from a search engine or a link), the type of device and browser you use, and your approximate location, such as city or region, worked out from your IP address. It also records when someone subscribes or uses a share button. Google Analytics does not log or store full IP addresses. It uses cookies to tell one visit from another.
We do not use advertising pixels, retargeting, session recording or any other tracking tools on this site.
2. How we use information
- To send The Tuesday issue and other Plant to Pipeline emails you signed up for.
- To send Grey Matter newsletters and marketing emails, which you can stop at any time (see section 6).
- To understand which pieces readers find useful, and to run and improve the site.
- To keep spam and fake signups out of our list.
- To meet legal obligations.
We use your contact information only for these marketing purposes. We do not use it for anything else.
3. Cookies
The only cookies this site sets are Google Analytics cookies (names that start with _ga). They count visits and do not identify you by name. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on. The site works the same either way.
4. Who we share information with
- Grey Matter. Plant to Pipeline and Grey Matter are owned and run by the same company, and subscriber contact information may be shared between them for the marketing uses in section 2.
- Service providers that run parts of the site for us: HubSpot, which stores the subscriber list and sends our emails; Google, which provides Google Analytics; and Cloudflare, which hosts the site. They handle data on our behalf, under their own terms.
- When the law requires it, such as in response to a valid legal request, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
- In a business transfer, if Plant to Pipeline or Grey Matter is sold or merged, subscriber information may pass to the new owner under this policy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your email address while you are subscribed and for as long as we reasonably need it afterward, for example to make sure we honor an unsubscribe. Google Analytics data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics account and then deleted.
6. Your choices
- Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
- Stop all marketing email from both Plant to Pipeline and Grey Matter: email info@gogreymatter.com and we will remove you from both.
- Analytics: block cookies or use Google's opt-out add-on (see section 3).
7. Your rights under state privacy laws
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale, of sharing for targeted advertising and of profiling. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, but you can still ask about these rights.
California. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, may use an authorized agent to make a request, and will not be treated differently for using them.
Other states. Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia have similar rights under their state laws. If we decline a request, our reply will explain how to appeal.
How to make a request. Email info@gogreymatter.com and tell us which right you are using, your state, and the email address you subscribed with, so we can verify the request. There is no fee for routine requests.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee it.
9. Children
Plant to Pipeline is written for working professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will delete the information.
10. Visitors outside the United States
Plant to Pipeline is run from the United States for US readers, and information is processed in the United States.
11. Links to other sites
Our articles link to many outside sources. This policy does not cover those sites; check their own policies.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell subscribers by email.
